MAHONING VALLEY, Ohio – This year, the generosity of local donors is helping 97 students take the next step in their educational journeys.
Through 25 different scholarship funds at the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, 131 scholarship awards totaling $209,880 were made to graduating high school seniors and students already enrolled in colleges, universities and other post-secondary programs. Graduating seniors receiving awards represented 19 local high schools across the Mahoning Valley.
Each scholarship reflects the vision of a donor who chose to invest in future generations. Some funds honor the memory of a loved one, while others were established by families, businesses, and organizations committed to expanding educational opportunities for local students. Together, these funds continue to create meaningful opportunities year after year.
“Scholarships are one way our donors choose to make a lasting impact in our community,” said Kat McGlothren, CFMV’s Donor Services and Scholarships Coordinator. “It’s inspiring to see so many individuals, families, businesses and organizations investing in students as they pursue their educational and career goals. Their generosity helps open doors and creates opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom.”
The Community Foundation administers scholarship funds established by donors who want to support education and invest in the future of the Mahoning Valley. Scholarship recipients are selected according to the criteria established by each fund’s donor or governing committee.
