Investing in the Valley: 2025 Impact at a Glance

Competitive Grants
In 2025, the Community Foundation and three of our affiliate foundations—Western Reserve Health Foundation, Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation and William Swanston Charitable Fund—awarded $2.8 million in competitive grants to nonprofit organizations across Mahoning and Trumbull Counties.
Through four quarterly cycles, funding supported a wide range of programs and initiatives that respond to community needs and opportunities. Explore each grant cycle below to view the organizations and projects funded throughout the year.
Additional Funding
Beyond competitive grants, the Community Foundation distributed additional funding throughout 2025 through scholarships, donor advised funds, agency and designated funds, and emergency support.
These investments reflect the full range of charitable activity made possible through partnerships with our donors and fundholders across the region.
$1.18M given through DAFs
Through donor advised funds, individuals, families and groups directed $1.18 million in funding to support nonprofit organizations and community initiatives across the Mahoning Valley. These flexible resources allow donors to invest in causes that matter most to them.
$174K scholarships awarded
In 2025, the Community Foundation awarded $174,000 in scholarships to 95 students, helping expand access to education and future opportunities. These awards reflect the generosity of fundholders committed to supporting students across the Mahoning Valley.
$103K in emergency grants
In 2025, the Foundation expanded its emergency grant program to respond to unexpected funding disruptions and urgent community needs—awarding $103,000 to nine organizations to help ensure essential services remained available across the Mahoning Valley.
$1.67M for nonprofit stability
Agency and designated funds provide nonprofit organizations with a dependable source of annual support. In 2025, $1.67 million went out to 25 nonprofits, helping them build sustainability while delivering essential programs and services.
2025 Impact Story
CFMV Helps City of Warren Invest $600K in ARPA Funds
A partnership between the City of Warren and the Community Foundation helped turn federal resources into local impact. By combining ARPA funding with grantmaking expertise, more than $600,000 was directed toward community-focused projects, including health, neighborhood and quality-of-life initiatives. This collaborative approach ensured funding was distributed thoughtfully and transparently, supporting programs that respond directly to community needs while building a stronger future for Warren residents.

Thrive Mahoning Valley is helping shape a more welcoming and connected region by bringing together organizations, resources and residents. What began as support for families displaced by natural disasters has grown into a broader effort to ensure newcomers and longtime residents alike feel they belong. Through partnerships, cultural events and expanded services, Thrive is strengthening connections across the Valley and helping build a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

The Trumbull County Veterans Memorial stands as a lasting tribute to those who served—and now, a new charitable fund is helping ensure that legacy continues. Created through a partnership between community leaders and the Foundation, the fund provides ongoing support for the memorial’s care and preservation. As stewardship passes to a new generation, the effort reflects a shared commitment to honoring service, preserving history and maintaining a meaningful space for remembrance.

Fund for Women & Girls Awards 3 Grants to Women-Led Organizations
Through its annual Impact Builder Grants, the Fund for Women & Girls brings donors and community members together to support programs that empower women and girls in our community. In 2025, three organizations received funding to expand initiatives focused on education, leadership and personal growth. This community-led process ensures that funding decisions reflect local priorities while investing in opportunities that help women and girls build confidence, skills and pathways for success.
Gems of the Valley
Fund for Women & Girls Honors Five
Each year, the Fund for Women & Girls shines a light on women whose work strengthens the Mahoning Valley in meaningful ways. Through the Gems of the Valley event, five local women were recognized for their leadership, compassion and commitment to their communities—often in ways that go unseen. The honor reflects a shared belief that uplifting women and celebrating their contributions helps build a stronger, more connected region for everyone.
