Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation Awards $23,000 in Scholarships to 15 Trumbull County Residents

Awards Encourage and Support Careers in Healthcare

WARREN, Ohio – At a recognition breakfast Friday, the Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation awarded $23,000 in scholarships to 15 Trumbull County residents who are planning careers in healthcare.

“The need for dedicated healthcare professionals is acute in many communities across our nation and state, including here in the Mahoning Valley where our population is aging faster than those of Ohio and the United States in general,” said Diane R. Sauer, chair of the health foundation and president of Diane Sauer Chevrolet, Inc. “We hope these scholarships will not only support the professional aspirations of the 15 deserving recipients, but also encourage them to consider starting their careers right here in the Mahoning Valley after graduation.”

The scholarship winners were chosen through an application process that considered students’ academic achievement, career plans and extracurricular activities. This year’s recipients are:

  • Olivia Baker, 2019 Badger High School graduate, Exercise Science/Pre-physical therapy at The Ohio State University
  • Leanne Brown, 2019 Maplewood High School graduate, Biology at either The Ohio State University
  • Jenna Craigo, 2019 Howland High School graduate, English/Pre-Med at The Ohio State University
  • Cole Davis, 2017 Champion High School graduate, Nursing at Youngstown State University
  • Mathew Davis, 2018 Champion High School graduate, Nursing at Youngstown State University
  • Laura Denman, 2019 Maplewood High School graduate, Neuroscience at The Ohio State University
  • Chelsea Glaspell, 2019 LaBrae High School graduate, Biochemistry and Psychology at The Ohio State University
  • Autumn Hanek, 2019 Maplewood High School graduate, Forensic Pathology at Youngstown State University
  • Lauren Harkins, 2016 Champion High School graduate, Speech Pathology and Audiology at Kent State University

The Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation provides grants to initiatives that advance the health of Trumbull County residents, as well as scholarships to future healthcare professionals. With assets of more than $15 million, the foundation is the successor to the Trumbull Memorial Hospital Foundation, which was created by the hospital in 1976. Since 2012, the foundation has operated separately from the hospital as an affiliate of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.
