COVID-19 Grantseeker and Grantee Update
As the William Swanston Charitable Fund and the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley continue assessing and responding to the current COVID-19 outbreak, we want to share several updates for grantseekers, as well as those with current or pending grants with us.
Update for nonprofits seeking funding:
Collectively, the Community Foundation and its affiliated foundations recently launched the Mahoning Valley Community Response Fund to provide support and resources to organizations working with those disproportionately affected by COVID-19. The application is simple and was created in conjunction with the Youngstown Foundation and the Raymond John Wean Foundation to streamline submission times for those applying to all three. If your organization is in need of funding, please visit our Response Fund page for more information on how to apply. Decisions will be made as quickly as possible to expedite support.
Update for nonprofits with a current grant:
We are implementing flexible reporting for those with current grants from the William Swanston Charitable Fund. Likely, this health crisis is disrupting activities and programming for our nonprofit partners, and we will consider that when evaluating outcomes and projections that were set before COVID-19 emerged. Please contact us once normal operations resume if you need to adjust timelines or have additional concerns about meeting projected goals.
Update for nonprofits with pending grant applications:
We will reconnect at a later date with organizations that have a pending application to determine how to best move forward once we shift focus back to operations as usual. We are aware priorities within organizations may be shifting and applications may no longer be as relevant or imperative as they were at submission. For deadlines that have not yet passed, we will be extending the submission period and will clarify expectations once normal operations resume.
The William Swanston Charitable Fund has released its Request for Proposals (RFP) for the 2019-2020 grant cycle.
The Swanston Fund requests proposals in 2020 for innovative projects that prevent or reduce the risk factors that can create disparities, and that create opportunities for all children in Mahoning and Trumbull counties to thrive. Proposals for projects should address prevention and/or immediate needs, and priority will be given to proposals focused on programs and services in the following areas (please see RFP for full descriptions):
- Health and Wellness
- Children’s Services
Interested applicants must review the full Request for Proposals (RFP) and submit a letter of inquiry (LOI) on or before Friday, December 13, 2019 at 4:00 p.m.
Please do not submit a full proposal to the Swanston Fund unless invited to do so. If your LOI is accepted, an application form will be made available to you. Those invited to submit a full proposal will be notified in late February 2020. Completed applications with supporting documents must then be submitted to the William Swanston Charitable Fund on or before Friday, March 13, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. Final grant decisions will be announced in May 2020.
