COVID-19 Grantseeker and Grantee Update

As the William Swanston Charitable Fund and the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley continue assessing and responding to the current COVID-19 outbreak, we want to share several new updates below for grantseekers, as well as those with current or pending grants with us.

Nonprofits with pending grant applications:

The board of the William Swanston Charitable Fund has made the difficult decision to forgo their traditional grant making for 2020 and divert resources to assist youth during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are aware a great deal of time and energy went into the proposals submitted for consideration, and acknowledge the inconvenience this may create for some organizations.

Please know your organization has the opportunity to solicit support from Swanston for crisis-related needs and stabilization efforts as the Fund is considering youth-focused requests that are submitted through the Mahoning Valley COVID-19 Crisis Relief and Stabilization Grants for Nonprofits.* This online common application was created by The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, the Raymond John Wean Foundation and the Youngstown Foundation. Additional information as well as the link to the form is available here on our Apply for a Grants page.

*In order for Swanston to consider your request to the COVID-19 Crisis Relief and Stabilization Application, please clearly describe how funds will be used to assist children in your submission.

Nonprofits with a current grant:

We have implemented flexible reporting for those with current grants from the William Swanston Charitable Fund. Likely, this health crisis is disrupting activities and programming for our nonprofit partners, and we will consider that when evaluating outcomes and projections that were set before COVID-19 emerged. Please contact us once normal operations resume if you need to adjust timelines or have additional concerns about meeting projected goals.

In addition, if you have funds from a current grant that are not expended and need to discuss the possibility of repurposing the funds’ use, please contact us at anytime to review options.

Nonprofits seeking funding:*

Collectively, the Community Foundation and its affiliated foundations launched the Mahoning Valley Community Response Fund  and the corresponding COVID-19 Crisis Relief and Stabilization Grant application to provide support and resources to organizations working with those disproportionately affected by COVID-19. The common application is simple and was created in conjunction with the Youngstown Foundation and the Raymond John Wean Foundation to streamline submission times for those applying to all participating funders. If your organization is in need of funding, please visit our Apply for a Grant page for more information on how to apply. Decisions will be made as quickly as possible to expedite support.
