(Youngstown, OH) The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley is accepting applications for the Jean Rider Scholarship. The scholarship, which was funded by the Diabetes Partnership of the Mahoning Valley, is a component fund of CFMV. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors from the Mahoning Valley who are Type 1 insulin-dependent diabetics.
Jean Rider, after whom the scholarship is named, has been a diabetic for 59 years. As a member of the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association, she created support groups, provided education at local schools and set up locations for diabetic blood testing. Jean was the first patient in Ohio to wear an insulin pump, created a Pump Club and became a certified pump instructor in 1992.
Students may obtain an application for the Jean Rider Scholarship fund by visiting the Community Foundation’s website at www.cfmv.org. Completed applications should be submitted to the Community Foundation by mail (201 E Commerce Street, Suite 150, Youngstown, OH 44503) or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org) no later than April 11, 2016.
