As the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley continues assessing and responding to the current COVID-19 outbreak, we’d like to take a moment to update our community. Our plan of action is outlined below, although we recognize that this plan could shift rapidly as the state and nation’s responses to the virus evolve.
We are in the midst of several traditional grant and scholarship cycles but have made the difficult decision to extend those timelines in order to shift focus to more pressing needs related to the virus and the effects it is already having on our communities.
To make that shift:
- We are working with current and prospective grantees, as well as the Healthy Community Partnership’s steering committee and collaborative partners to determine impact on their organizations and the local residents they serve.
- We established the Mahoning Valley Community Response Fund* to support nonprofit partners serving individuals most adversely affected by COVID-19 and the consequences related to the outbreak. The application process is simple, and quick funding decisions and the rapid deployment of resources will help mitigate negative impacts of the virus. If you are interested in supporting this fund or are an organization in need of resources, please visit our Response Fund page for more information.
- We postponed all in-person meetings indefinitely, moved primarily to working remotely, and ask that anyone needing to connect with staff, please contact us via email or phone, rather than visiting our offices.
- We are implementing flexible reporting for those with current grants from CFMV or one of our affiliate foundations. Likely, this health crisis is disrupting activities and programming for our nonprofit partners, and we will consider that when evaluating outcomes and projections that were set before COVID-19 emerged. If you have a current grant with us, please contact us once normal operations resume if you need to adjust timelines or have additional concerns about meeting projected goals. Rest assured, we support and encourage any decisions or precautionary measures you must take during this time of uncertainty.
Over the next few days, we will send out detailed communications to our various fund holders, grantees, and donors, so look for more information in your inbox, specific to your relationship with CFMV. In the meantime, our ears are open; if you have questions, suggestions, or concerns, we encourage you to share with us what you are seeing and experiencing from your perspective. Staff can be reached by email during normal business hours (8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.).
We appreciate your support of the community at this time, and we are grateful to have your partnership as we collectively respond to this pandemic.
