Community Foundation Hires Kathleen McGlothren as Operations & Grants Administrator

YOUNGSTOWN/WARREN, Ohio – The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley has hired Kathleen (Kat) McGlothren as its operations and grants administrator, the Foundation’s third hire in the past year as it works to expand its capacity to support the area’s nonprofit community.

As operations and grants administrator, she is responsible for efficient office operations and administrative functions such as record keeping, data management and assisting CFMV president Shari Harrell. She also directly supports the Foundation’s grants and scholarship processes.

“Kat’s arrival at the Community Foundation fills an important position that helps keep our organization running smoothly and efficiently,” Harrell says. “In the short time she’s been here, Kat has already made an impact and helped us better carry out our mission. We’re excited to have her come aboard.”

Adds McGlothren: “One of my favorite proverbs is ‘If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’ At the Community Foundation, I see that brought to life. I’m excited to be part of this team that’s working every day to make the Mahoning Valley a better place for everyone.”

Before taking on her role at the Foundation, Kat, a life-long Youngstown resident, studied dance at The Ohio State University and vocal performance at Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music. She then worked as a retail manager at various companies and has done freelance proofreading and editing since 2007. She returned to Youngstown State as a non-traditional student, where in 2001 she received her bachelor’s in professional and technical writing, graduating Magna Cum Laude. After graduation, Kat served as a dance teacher for Students Motivated by the Arts (SMARTS) and continued her role as a freelancer before finding her new home at the Community Foundation.

In her off-time, Kat has appeared in several productions at The Youngstown Playhouse, including A Chorus Line, Cats, The Music Man, Mary Poppins and, most recently, A Grand Night for Singing.

The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley strives to be a leader and advocate for strategic philanthropy, partnering with donors to anchor a permanent and growing endowment and making investments in the Mahoning Valley that improve the quality of life for all residents. The Community Foundation is the only local foundation with certification from the Community Foundation National Standards Board.
